IKEA
We went to IKEA on Sunday to stock up for Christmas and to make sure to get julmust this year. They seem to bring home less things for every year. I assume it is because they haven’t managed to sell those other things very well the previous years. So what they added for this season is more herring than usual, pepparkakor in Christmassy tins, dough to make your own pepparkakor, Christmas crisp bread (that’s a bit of a tongue twister), and of course the julmust (though this year they got Nygårds rather then Apotekarens, but hey its better than having Coca-Cola with the Christmas food). So no rödkål (red cabbage), mustard or cheese this year. I am not that great fan of the rödkål, but it is nice to have something not fatty, vegetable and that I don’t have to cook from scratch, on the table. I mean I most likely have to make my own mustard already.
Sick!
It’s the poor little boy that is not well again. He hasn’t got much of a fewer anymore but it his breathing that causes the problem. It is really bad and he keep making loads of noise when breathing, but as he actually manage to sleep fairly well the last night it must be getting better even though it still sounds quite bad. The older kids had there bout earlier so they are basically well now. I am getting better as well, not getting any fewer or so but a fairly bad throat ache and after 6 hours of lecturing on Thursday not very much of the glorious voice left, but the it is almost back to normal now. Just a sore throat left, but I don’t want another set of antibiotics. I had at least 3 different doses of antibiotics this semester and think that is enough. If it continues like this next semester too, I will seriously consider dropping the PhD for health reasons.
Saffron!
Finally found Saffron on Saturday and compared to the prices in Sweden it was darn cheap, but even so what am I supposed to do with 10 g or so (the amount was not stated but by the amount in the pack it was at least 10 g) of saffron I just need a gram or so of saffron. Actually I don’t know how much saffron I need as it says 2 packs in my recipe. But if it was 2 packs like the one I saw on Saturday it would be unhealthy. So is one pack in Sweden half a gram or one gram? Anyway on Sunday I found a gram pack instead for RM 9 which is 25% of the price of the 10g pack but I don’t think I would be able to use it all so it would probably be a waste. So it will be lussebullsbak over the weekend. I think I will use half the batch for traditional ones and the other half to make round buns with raisin, dates and sunflower seed, to get some variation. It will also be some pepparkakor made over the weekend and possibly some making of mustard too. So it will be a busy weekend.
Thunderstruck
Might be a nice song, but it’s definitely not nice when it happens to your computer. The power surge went in via the modem and the network connection and melted some chips on the motherboard and killed the modem on the way as well. So no internet or computing at home. Now I just have to figure out what computer I should get, which will probably take a while as I always have problem to make up my mind. Laptop or desktop, cheapest possible one with 2Gb Ram or a fancier one? That will probably take all of December to figure out.
